Mt. Zion Children’s Ministry Completes New Wing

Mt. Zion Christian Church debuts the new children’s wing, an area which is targeted for grades K-5. More than a dozen bright colored murals and confetti carpet are all part of the new design. Nancy Gray, Children’s Minister at Mt. Zion for 11 years, believes that this vibrant new décor will inspire children to “Believe in God” which is the name for the new space—The B.I.G. Connection.

Gray explains their goal was to create a learning environment which is exciting and fun for the children to come to each week, a place to actively draw children into a vital relationship with Jesus Christ. “It’s our commitment to work with families in laying a spiritual foundation that every child can build their lives on,” said Gray.

On a weekly basis, children “connect with God” by participating in a large group praise and worship time before going to their individual classrooms for bible study. Children are also given the opportunity to minister to others by serving communion, collecting offering, leading music, controlling power point, and other jobs which provide them a strong foundation for becoming future church leaders. “We feel fortunate to have found a church that teaches bible lessons in the traditional way we grew up learning but also offers media elements children need to keep their attention in this day and age,” said Julie Baumgardner, member of the Mt. Zion Children’s Ministry team.

The new changes at Mt. Zion have created a lot of excitement among the children. “I love going into my classroom with all those sparkles,” said Lauren Palmer, 2nd grader at Mt. Zion, “it makes me want to spread Jesus across the world.”

During the summer months, Mt. Zion will provide many opportunities for children to visit the new “B.I. G. Connection” facility. Scheduled programs are as follows: Music Camp, June 13-15 9:00-noon $6, register no later than Monday June 11; VBS July 15-19 6:30-9:30 p.m.; and Children’s Church, every Sunday 10:10 a.m. For more information on these events or to register, contact Nancy Gray at 771-2446 or Jennifer Palmer at 749-0727. Our nursery provides a loving, warm environment for infants through age three. It is divided into three sections (sleepers, crawlers, and walkers) to ensure your child's safety.

Child registration is located at the main nursery entrance directly off the main lobby. When registering you will receive a pager in the event you need to be reached. 

Preschool through 5th graders meet in the fellowship hall located through the breezeway, off the east hall. They enjoy refreshments and praise time before going to their individual classrooms. Following the service, children should be picked up in their classrooms.

Children are encouraged to attend their own worship groups and classes. Here they learn about Jesus through drama, music and videos that relate especially to them.
