I want to thank David Brookshire and
the rest of the musicians and singers for leading us in an awesome
time of Praise and Worship these past two weeks while Mike Mitcham
was on vacation. Thanks team!!!!!!!
This past Sunday Paula Stefanovich gave us an inspiring song service
and is scheduled to return in June and possibly join with our
musicians, singers and some friends of hers... so if anyone would be
interested in being part of this joint effort, start warming up
those vocal chords. Maybe we could devote the entire service to time
of great Praise and Worship.
This Sunday we are scheduled to discuss the 3rd commandment which
prohibits the use of God’s name in a disrespectful manner. This
Commandment / Word, covers a wider scope than one might initially
think. When I watch a "Judge Judy Show" I find the Judge will become
very disgruntled with plaintiffs and defendants when they display
any type of disrespect. If an earthly Judge becomes so upset with
others because of this kind of behavior, how much more the creator
of all mankind?
Everyone of us at one time or another have been upset about
something but what is it that keeps us (if anything does) from going
too far AND what is it that we consider "Going too far?"
Forty years ago Clarke Gabel spoke the first curse word aired
through the medium of film which was approved by the entertainment
industry. That was the most talked about line of the whole movie. It
angered many but it clearly set a precedent and now in the year 2007
many do not think a thing of that word being used in a movie. The
worst part of it all is that we do not have to go to the movies to
hear such language; just turn on the television set and tune it to a
local station. Depending on what program is playing you might even
hear God’s name used in vain over and over.
I enjoy watching some programs but I can’t stand hearing the
language so 8 years ago I purchased a "CURSE FREE T.V." controller.
It cost about $100.00 and was difficult to adapt to because it mutes
the volume and displays alternate words through closed captioning.
It was at first annoying but still better than the language and
because I had been so inundated with T.V. language, I knew what the
word was that was being replaced. It was so aggravating...at first,
but after a while I was not thinking about the bad words as I became
accustomed to the new gizmo. However, in time I put the television
in the Kitchen and started spending time there. And now because of
this sermon series I just realized the controller is in the den just
sitting there. At the end of this paragraph it will be moved where
it is needed. I need it, you need it, we all need it and what is
it... a controller? Yes! It might be the type I paid money for or it
might be the type which is free. Some type of controller is needed
in all of our lives and God’s 3rd Word is a great place to start.
