This Friday & Saturday there will be a Yard Sale at 36 Boone avenue
right here in Winchester. Please come out and see what you really,
really need, for it will surely be here. If you have anything to
donate for this worthy cause, please drop it off Thursday night or
call me at 859-771-8087 and maybe I can help with the dilemma. This
Sunday after Church, the Youth will be providing a benefit lunch in
the Gym. All purchases from the yard sale and donations for the
lunch will go to help fund the Youth’s Mission Tour for June of this
year. Let’s see if we can help them more than we have before.
Sunday’s sermon will come from the 6, 7 & 8th chapters of the book
of Judges. We will center our attention on one of the Judges God
gave the Israelites by the name of Gideon. He didn’t look at himself
as a leader but leaders must be followers first and Gideon
eventually learned to follow the Lord.
Come see how this man wanted to make sure it was God he was talking
to or if he was just afraid to do what God wanted. You might leave
still wondering and/or quite possibly realizing there are portions
of some of the great heroes of the Bible whose situations and
opportunities are not very different from some we have faced in the
past. God is always calling us to travel closer to him and his
desires, but we are often very afraid for various reasons.
The book of Judges is filled with God’s children disobeying God and
then eventually receiving the just recompense. They would then cry
out to God for deliverance and God would send someone to lead them
to victory...but only for a short while and that according to their
own ways as best expressed in the words of the Apostle Peter in His
2nd writing which bears his name: 2nd Peter 2:22 But it is
happened unto them according to the true proverb, The dog is turned
to his own vomit again; and the sow that was washed to her wallowing
in the mire.
Why is it we seldom learn from the mistakes of others? Is it because
we believe we would never behave so badly if we were given the same
opportunities or if we lived back then it would have been easier? It
would seem the Children of this world are who they are in whatever
time period or situation. Maybe the only time things are much
different is when we are in tough enough situations to cause us to
turn totally to God. I remember a time not so long ago when many in
this nation bowed and prayed...when we didn’t care what the ACLU
said we could or could not do...and the ACLU itself wasn’t so vocal
for they had lost their will to speak against God. Tough times have
a way of eventually shutting the mouths of devils and opening the
mouths of the true Children of God.
God is speaking to this world and to each of us individually in
these last of days in which we live. What will be our answer to He
who saves us by his grace...who desires a closer fellowship with his
creation...who says it will not be long...What will be our answer to
His call?
Gideon may have appeared scarred or indecisive...but how he ended
his days was indicative of how he lived his days and while he lived
his days I am sure he thought many times they would be his last.
For whatever amount of time we have left upon this earth, let us be
listening for the way of the Lord to lead us and most of all, may we
follow where He leads.
For The Cause of Christ,
Kenny
