Last week I forgot
to mention a couple of people who gave soooo much. Two weeks ago I
called Greg & Terri Bryant 2 hours before the worship service in the
park and they responded beautifully. They had the much needed tents
which we used over the sound system and quite a few seats. I think
they are wonderful people as they came as soon as I called and
offered the tents for a time which seemed would produce rain at any
moment. THANK YOU GREG & TERRI!!!!!!!!!!
What an absolutely awesome Sunday. It seems I say that a lot lately,
don’t I. "The Salvage Yard Christian Church" were awe inspiring and
I thank Darlene Newsome’s family and friends who provided pizza and
bon fire for our friends, Adam Grashel and family for the fireworks,
Karen & Steve Haskins for the pulled pork meal and the many gracious
words of gratitude extended towards our friends from the North. The
group from Indiana provided a wonderful experience in worshiping God
from their music, black light gloves skit and preaching. We welcome
this group each year and look forward to their arrival again next
year.
The Christian group "Crossover" performed Sunday night before going
on to Nashville on Monday. Their time of ministry through song and
testimony was much appreciated and enjoyed. Thanks to Bill
Ballinger, lead singer for the group and friend to Nathan Jackson &
myself. We toured China together a couple of years ago and remain
friends in God’s great ministry.
This Sunday I plan to bring a sermon surrounding the times in which
Jesus multiplied the food for thousands of people. Read the
following accounts carefully and find the common denominator.
Matthew 14:13-21 When Jesus heard what had happened, he
withdrew by boat privately to a solitary place. Hearing of this, the
crowds followed him on foot from the towns. 14 When Jesus landed and
saw a large crowd, he had compassion on them and healed their sick.
15 As evening approached, the disciples came to him and said, "This
is a remote place, and it's already getting late. Send the crowds
away, so they can go to the villages and buy themselves some food."
16 Jesus replied, "They do not need to go
away. You give them something to eat." 17 "We have here only
five loaves of bread and two fish," they answered. 18 "Bring
them here to me," he said. 19 And he directed the people to
sit down on the grass. Taking the five loaves and the two fish and
looking up to heaven, he gave thanks and broke the loaves. Then he
gave them to the disciples, and the disciples gave them to the
people. 20 They all ate and were satisfied, and the disciples picked
up twelve basketfuls of broken pieces that were left over. 21 The
number of those who ate was about five thousand men, besides women
and children.
Matthew 15:29-38; Jesus left there and went along the Sea of
Galilee. Then he went up on a mountainside and sat down. 30 Great
crowds came to him, bringing the lame, the blind, the crippled, the
mute and many others, and laid them at his feet; and he healed them.
31 The people were amazed when they saw the mute speaking, the
crippled made well, the lame walking and the blind seeing. And they
praised the God of Israel. 2 Jesus called his disciples to him and
said, "I have compassion for these people;
they have already been with me three days and have nothing to eat. I
do not want to send them away hungry, or they may collapse on the
way." 33 His disciples answered, "Where could we get enough
bread in this remote place to feed such a crowd?"34 "How
many loaves do you have?" Jesus asked. "Seven," they replied,
"and a few small fish." 35 He told the crowd to sit down on the
ground. 36 Then he took the seven loaves and the fish, and when he
had given thanks, he broke them and gave them to the disciples, and
they in turn to the people. 37 They all ate and were satisfied.
Afterward the disciples picked up seven basketfuls of broken pieces
that were left over. 38 The number of those who ate was four
thousand, besides women and children.
Mark 6:34-44 When Jesus landed and saw a large crowd, he had
compassion on them, because they were like sheep without a shepherd.
So he began teaching them many things. 35 By this time it was late
in the day, so his disciples came to him. "This is a remote place,"
they said, "and it's already very late. 36 Send the people away so
they can go to the surrounding countryside and villages and buy
themselves something to eat." 37 But he answered, "You
give them something to eat." They said to him, "That would
take eight months of a man's wages! Are we to go and spend that much
on bread and give it to them to eat?" 38 "How
many loaves do you have?" he asked. "Go
and see." When they found out, they said, "Five--and two
fish."39 Then Jesus directed them to have all the people sit down in
groups on the green grass. 40 So they sat down in groups of hundreds
and fifties. 41 Taking the five loaves and the two fish and looking
up to heaven, he gave thanks and broke the loaves. Then he gave them
to his disciples to set before the people. He also divided the two
fish among them all. 42 They all ate and were satisfied, 43 and the
disciples picked up twelve basketfuls of broken pieces of bread and
fish. 44 The number of the men who had eaten was five thousand.
Mark 8:1-10 During those days another large crowd gathered.
Since they had nothing to eat, Jesus called his disciples to him and
said, 2 "I have compassion for these people; 3
If I send them home hungry, they will collapse on the way, because
some of them have they have already been with me three days and have
nothing to eat. come a long distance." 4 His disciples
answered, "But where in this remote place can anyone get enough
bread to feed them?" 5 "How many loaves do you
have?" Jesus asked. "Seven," they replied. 6 He told the
crowd to sit down on the ground. When he had taken the seven loaves
and given thanks, he broke them and gave them to his disciples to
set before the people, and they did so. 7 They had a few small fish
as well; he gave thanks for them also and told the disciples to
distribute them. 8 The people ate and were satisfied. Afterward the
disciples picked up seven basketfuls of broken pieces that were left
over. 9 About four thousand men were present. And having sent them
away, 10 he got into the boat with his disciples and went to the
region of Dalmanutha.
Luke 9:10-17 When the apostles returned, they reported to
Jesus what they had done. Then he took them with him and they
withdrew by themselves to a town called Bethsaida, 11 but the crowds
learned about it and followed him. He welcomed them and spoke to
them about the kingdom of God, and healed those who needed healing.
12 Late in the afternoon the Twelve came to him and said, "Send the
crowd away so they can go to the surrounding villages and
countryside and find food and lodging, because we are in a remote
place here." 13 He replied, "You give them
something to eat."
They answered, "We have only five loaves of bread and two
fish--unless we go and buy food for all this crowd." 14 (About five
thousand men were there.) But he said to his disciples, "Have
them sit down in groups of about fifty each." 15 The
disciples did so, and everybody sat down. 16 Taking the five loaves
and the two fish and looking up to heaven, he gave thanks and broke
them. Then he gave them to the disciples to set before the people.
17 They all ate and were satisfied, and the disciples picked up
twelve basketfuls of broken pieces that were left over.
