From the Preaching Minister

August 26, 2008

It was great having members of Shelby Christian come and sing praise to God. They have performed in many dramas at Shelby and are a very enthusiastic group who love being together and praising God. We are fortunate to worship with such dedicated fine people and I hope they will come again sometime soon.

Don’t you just love the way J.D. Miller is able to segue from the sermon to a communion devotion that’s always insightful. I greatly appreciate his words each week as they truly serve to remind us the sacrifice Christ paid through the stripes he received and nails which pierced his hands and feet. Another way J.D. communicates the gospel of Christ is through the communion devotion he delivers each week before the praise team practice. On top of that, he teaches a Sunday School class in the Kitchenette which proves to be very thought provoking. No wonder the people of Shelby Christian miss this talented man of God...and behind this successful man, there is his wife. Cheryl fixes communion for the praise team, makes copies of the music needed, sings in the praise team AND helps the rest of us convince J.D. that we didn’t sing it that way the last time. Ha! Ha! Just a little joke J.D.

China closed out the 2008 Olympics with a spectacular celebration which may never be equaled. The performers worked for nine months to ensure the perfect timing of all acrobatics and fireworks. In Denver, Colorado the Democratic National Convention is now under way and here in Winchester, KY, well, it seems summer has once again flown by and its close is marked by America’s annual "Labor Day" celebration with many activities scheduled in almost every town. In Winchester, Saturday & Sunday, there are food and crafts to see and purchase a well as musicians and singers performing in College Park. Mt. Zion leads worship in College Park Sunday Morning at 8:00 AM (Not 8:30 as we previously had thought) and then we plan to return to our own facility for the 10:10 AM service where we hope to celebrate 10 years in the new facility with some remembrances of days gone by. Try and make it to one of our Worship services or better yet, come to both.

I believe God continues to bless Mt. Zion and has days of great challenges ahead which will produce more and more conversions. The question to us will always be: ARE WE READY TO PUSH FORWARD FOR THE CAUSE OF CHRIST? In last week’s web page I asked "How does one discern the will of God over our own desires?" The answer was best illustrated from the life of John the Baptist where John’s disciples left him to follow Jesus. John did not become jealous or upset. Look at this scripture from John 3:26-30 26 They came to John and said to him, "Rabbi, that man who was with you on the other side of the Jordan--the one you testified about--well, he is baptizing, and everyone is going to him."
27 To this John replied, "A man can receive only what is given him from heaven. 28 You yourselves can testify that I said, 'I am not the Christ but am sent ahead of him.' 29 The bride belongs to the bridegroom. The friend who attends the bridegroom waits and listens for him, and is full of joy when he hears the bridegroom's voice. That joy is mine, and it is now complete. 30 He must become greater; I must become less.

There it is..."He must become greater; I must become less." When we are willing to further the desires and plans of God over our own hopes and dreams, positions and power, then we are truly children of God. Let us move forward WITH GOD.

P.S. Please remember to give Adam Grashel a big thank you. I went out to the storage Barn to get something and I thought I had stepped into someone else’s building. Without anyone having to ask, Adam cleaned and organized the whole storage area.
THANK YOU ADAM!!!!!!!

For the Cause of Christ,

Kenny
