From the Preaching Minister
| September 12, 2008 |
| |
J.D. Miler & I are in Oklahoma conducting a Round Robin
Revival. During the day we work with 6 other men and women
remodeling an A Frame cottage for a man whose height is only
about 3 feet tall. Lowell Mason is an evangelist whom we
hope to have come to Mt. Zion sometime soon. He is a
wonderful man of God, preacher and great singer. Pray for us
as we endeavor to saw lumber, hammer nails, paint, preach,
sing and see souls changed for eternity. We are scheduled to
return this Saturday but until then, please be patient as
the cell phone signal in these mountains does not seem to
exist. The only time I have been able to use my telephone is
during my travels to the churches where I am preaching and
even then it is not guaranteed because some of these
churches are further into the mountains than where we are
staying. I will try and return all calls Saturday night as
soon as possible.
I cannot thank each person from Mt. Zion Christian Church
and our Community enough, for all of the outpouring of hope
and love, demonstrated during the passing of and services
for McKenna Hatchet. Everyone who knew her and even many who
did not, stepped up and gave much so others could be helped
through this tragic event. Many area churches helped and I
would like to mention those I know of. If I forget some one
of a church, please remind me when I return. First, it was
there at GRC for grief counseling where I met with youth
ministers from The First Church of God, First United
Methodist, Calvary Christian, Central Baptist, Franklin
Avenue Church of God along with the lady priest from
Emmanuel Episcopal. Each of these fine people, along with
counselors and teachers from GRC extended their love and
care in a great way. Our own Darlene Newsome was awesome as
usual as she consoled, counseled and just plain held up so
many.
A lady from Heritage Baptist and one from Calvary Christian
helped in our kitchen and then offered to get us some more
chairs, which we took them up on. Other churches in our area
offered help in whatever way we might need. Dunbar High
School Soccer team sent a covered dish as did some other
schools. Students from connecting school districts made
their way to the visitation and the funeral service
expressed their heartfelt sympathy. Some had only met
McKenna at Soccer Camp but were touched by her life.
If I told every story which has come forth due to the past
weeks events, I would be typing for quite some time. But one
story I wish to relate, is that of a single yellow balloon:
It seems there are stories surrounding a single yellow
balloon which made it’s way out to Lykins Park with the
funeral procession and even later a single yellow balloon as
been found in some of our yards and lives. "What is with
this," some might ask...I am not entirely sure but I do
believe God continues to desire each of us to realize how
real and present He is and that He desires a loving
relationship with His creation. The more days I spend here
on this planet, the more I do not believe in things "Just
happening." I believe in a much larger plan, in which God
knows and interacts within the paths we choose, and the
plans which are interrupted by forces which seek to destroy
us. The main question should not necessarily be whether an
event is from God or mere coincidence, but rather "What am I
going to do with this which is before me?" That which is
before us now is a challenge to discover the God of the
Universe and connect with the saving grace of love He
offers. Isn’t it about time we all accepted Him and the
redemption offered through the name of His only Son, Jesus.
Come and become a witness to the realization that there
really is power in the name of Jesus.
Please continue to pray for Tim, Missy, Ramsey & Kadin
Hatchett as they need spiritual guidance though the coming
days. They will likely have days when we might think they
are doing fine and then it will be new all over again. This
is not a process which can be tracked like a road map or
some event. This will be something which will take years and
years to get further through and yet possibly never
completely...until we are all reunited.
With a saving relationship through Jesus Christ, we know we
will be reunited someday soon, with those...Repentant,
Confessing, Serving, Baptized Believers who have gone home
ahead of us. Please remember and share this thought with as
many as you can, how only a living, active faith and hope in
Christ can overcome this world and the circumstances we are
faced with and going through.
This Sunday I plan to be back in the pulpit of Mt. Zion and
I wish I could give you the scriptures and topic but as of
right now, in these mountains of Oklahoma, I am not certain
the exact message God wants us to examine. I do know Tom
Benz should be with us. Tom is the missionary to The Ukraine
which Cheryl McKenny, J.D. & myself were able to meet,
travel and worship with while we were there two yeas ago.
Also, one of our interpreters, Tayna, is traveling with Tom
and his wife Larissa. We are looking forward to seeing them
once again and to hear a bit from them.
From the mountains of Oklahoma and For the Cause of Christ,
Kenny |
