From the Preaching Minister
| January 22, 2009 |

With other churches calling off services this past
Sunday you would have thought we were hit by an avalanche of
snow and ice but most of you braved the cold and came on out
to enjoy a wonderful time of praise to God. We also
witnessed the baptisms of two young men into a baptistery
that was not exactly freezing but close. We thank God for
these decisions.
This Sunday I hope to preach more on the truths of scripture
as outlined in our faithfulness toward God through our
monetary giving. Some have the idea of giving time and so
being excluded from tithing but the Bible is very clear
about both of these issues as one day in seven being devoted
to God as well as one dollar in ten. Some will complain how
they just cannot get to the point of tithing (10% of income)
but that everyone should be happy with whatever some might
give. That sounds noble enough but nobility is not what God
is looking for. He desires an intimate relation with His
creation which can only be produced and enjoyed with the
soul that has dedicated all to God's service. Please
understand, God does not need our 10 percent, but rather
desires our sacrifice, which illustrates our trust, which
merits His favor. Until we can give generously, happily and
according to God's design, we will continue to wander in a
wilderness of uncertainty where blessings fall to others and
we continue to question why.
I just completed a word search scrabble from the Coastal
Christian Newsletter of Myrtle Beach, South Carolina and in
so doing I saw something play out which I believe relevant
to our day. There were 15 biblical names to find and I found
every one of them but one, and hard as I tried it took me a
long time to find this one last name. I found Solomon,
David, Moses and all the others that were listed, but
couldn't find the name "Jesus." I kept searching and
eventually found that which I had missed throughout the
entire puzzle...And then it occurred to me how each person
searches for the meaning of life, the reason for living, and
yet some never find the answer. Some choose to give up and
go on their own way, making excuse after excuse while their
journey ends so abruptly and without reason. All I can say
is "Find Jesus and you will discover the answer to life,
follow Jesus and you will find even more." See you Sunday.
