I want to invite everyone to a benefit concert at
Northeast Christian Church in Lexington in the evening of
Sunday, May 17th at 6pm. It is being promoted by "Perfect
Peace Ministry" and is intended to raise money for the "Jill
Marie Rendel Scholarship Fund". Jill is the deceased
daughter of Barbara & Wally Rendel who went home to be with
the Lord while completing her senior year of study at
Cincinnati. Jill was travelling with her Girls Basketball
team when the 16 passenger van in which she was riding
overturned on black ice. Jill had planned to be a teacher
and children's minister which would allow her to follow in
the footsteps of her parents who ministered with the
Southern Acres Christian Church in Lexington for more than
thirty years.
There is no ticket charge for the concert, but there will be
a freewill offering received for the scholarship which the
Rendels hope to grow to $100,000. The interest from this
fund will be awarded to deserving young men & women at CCU
who are preparing for ministry.
J.D. Miller and I will be performing along with other
musicians and singers. Wayne Smith will be there to speak on
behalf of the offering and Wally & Barbara will give a few
closing remarks. Please make plans to attend this night of
inspirational music and great fun for a wonderful cause.
I intend to continue our current series which deals with the
first book of the Bible "Genesis which means "Beginnings".
Many of the Bibles greatest stories are within these pages
and if we cannot believe these first accounts...there isn't
any reason to give validity to any other part of the Bible.
For instance: If we cannot believe God created the Earth in
the manner He speaks of in the Bible, why would we believe
anything else He says? And please, please, please remember
this: Light bulbs will not be kept from illuminating just
because someone might not be able to fully explain or
comprehend the science of Electricity.
The biggest obstacle most could have in understanding the
events recorded in the Bible is the inability to realize
just how interested God could be in His own creation. We
hear songs like "From A Distance" and might begin to think
God is way out there watching when in fact God is
omnipresent which means He has the ability to be everywhere
at the same time. Our brains cannot begin to comprehend such
a thing being real and so we must rely on faith...which is
what God desires to begin with.
Another song "Imagine" by John Lennon says it is easy to
imagine some things... "easy if you try". But what he says
to imagine is there not being a Heaven or Hell. Yes, I guess
it could be easy if you try but those who really want to
imagine no Heaven, no Hell, could be doing so only to remove
any kind of responsibility. I believe it behooves each of us
to take a look at the evidence which has been given in these
last days in which we are living. It seems the more science
digs and researches, it keeps coming back to someone
building this thing we call Earth...that someone wound it
all up and without someone to come back and wind it up
again, we will continue to watch as it unravels and unwinds.
Within this current sermon series I plan to look at #1
Creation, #2 Adam & Eve, #3 The Tower of Babel, and #4
Noah's Ark. However, we might have to interrupt our series
because there is a worldwide celebration of "Mothers Day"
coming up...at least there is in the world where I live. But
until then, come out this Sunday as we delve deeper into the
Book of Genesis. See if it is possible to pull more of the
curtain back and discover truths we just don't hear much
about in today's news outlets. I think it is very
possible!!!!!
One last thing I want to announce: If there is a question
you have and would like to hear a sermon concerning the
answer to it, please email me @
kws0077@yahoo.com
and I will see what can happen. Anything you tell me in
passing will probably not stick to my brain so please email
me with your thoughts and questions. Our current series
is in response to someone's question and it might be more
than they wanted but we have not because we ask not, so be
careful what you ask. Ha! Ha! Hope to see you Sunday!
For the Cause of Christ,
Kenny |
