Another awesome day in the Lord at Mt. Zion
Christian Church as we witnessed two new members to the
Kingdom of God, rededications AND thankfulness for prayers.
James Russell Maxim and Lee Caskey came forward to announce
their belief in Jesus as God's only son and their personal
desire to accept Christ as Savior. James Russell and Lee
were obedient to the good news of God as they requested to
be baptized subsequent to their open repentance and belief
in Christ. Could it get any better?
Lee is an elementary school student who was visibly moved by
this choice of a lifetime. Her decision, especially on this
day of the Sermon about Noah and his family being saved due
to Noah's obedience to God, was especially gratifying to her
family who supported her in this decision. Remember, it was
only a little while back that her father came forward to
express his belief in Christ and subsequent baptism by his
friend, Steve Haskins. See Dad's, it really does pay to come
forward and publicly renounce satan, accepting Jesus as
Savior. WHEW!!! What a day!
James Russell has graduated from College and is to be wed in
just two weeks. He will seek a job as the Pro of a Golf
Course and ultimately, as we all hope, he can make the pro
tour. What a way for him to start off his new life in
marriage and career by joining Christ in the watery grave of
salvation. His fiancee, Ashley Crowe, has recently graduated
from Dental School and the two of them intend to move to
Illinois this summer/fall sometime. Please pray for them as
they begin this new life.
I thank God for a church where people come to know it is
time to get real with God and themselves...and they do! Some
of us who have been around for a while, heard about God's
amazing love and mercy for many years, know how awesome
these times are in which we live...and yet there are those
who continue to turn a deaf ear to the call of God. I do not
know what it is going to take for those who need to respond,
to respond, but I continue to pray for their salvation as
well as countless others I do not know.
Erin Abshear and Rachel Horning each came forth to express
their thankfulness to everyone who prayed for them during
their time of illness. Both ladies were in the hospital
recently and are gladly and very, very thankfully
recovering. Please continue to pray for them both as they
press on to deal with the coming days and their own homes
and children.
This past Monday, youth and adults gathered in the sanctuary
to watch a film that highlighted some of the activities in
which McKenna Hatchett was involved during her life. Monday
was her birthday and I am thankful for those who put all of
this together. After the film, and some "personal stories"
about McKenna from her friends, we all gathered near the
youth room where a tree has been planted and a stone will be
placed in McKenna's memory. After a moment of prayer, yellow
balloons were released to fly off into the sky. I appreciate
those who took this time to remember McKenna AND join the
Hatchett family in moving forward through this difficult
time.
This coming Sunday our youth will be performing some of the
skits they will present to southern churches and people next
week. Yes, it is time for our youth and chaperones (Parents)
to make their yearly pilgrimage away from the boundaries of
Kentucky where differences are made for eternity in the
loves of those who watch and hear as well as those who give
so much to this cause. Please pray for them as they travel.
Please make prayers specific with requests for great
ministry, travel safety, good health, Accident free skits,
great guidance, watchful eyes, open hearts and a host of
things which I can't even imagine at this present time, so
you be creative and watch as God intertwines in these
special lives.
I want to thank the Newsome FAMILY for all of their labors
of love in seeing the lives of so many young people improve
for the cause of Christ. Darlene Newsome, specifically, is
one of the most amazing ladies I know. She dedicates herself
to the indwelling goodness within each person that can only
be realized with a life changing experience with savior
Jesus Christ. She has been a leader for many years and even
though her own children have graduated high School and
College, she continues to do that which is heaviest upon her
heart.
I also want to thank Darlene's husband Steve who continues
to be a man who supports his wife while and yet at the same
time isn't able to go to many of the places our youth
travel. Thank you Steve, you are truly "One of a kind."
Steve and Darlene's kids have been (Voluntarily or not)
recruited to help out each week with making our youth team
one of the VERY BEST anywhere!!!!!!! Thank you Patrick
Sinclair (recruited by marriage) and wife Heather, AND John
and Jacob, all of you are greatly appreciated.
By the way, Patrick and father in law, Steve, "Handmade" all
of the ink pens (Pictured below) which were given as gifts
to all of our graduates.
The
pens are handcrafted with a Retro Style, Twist Ball Point
Pen hand turned with Cocobolo wood. These were awesome gifts
and they can help with your gifts in the future...Hint,
Hint. Also,
these pens can be engraved as well. Oh and all of the
graduates spoke, revealing their plans for college, future
and jobs. CONGRATS TO ALL!!!!!
Ashley Sparks assembled a video with photos from each
graduates "formative years." I wish they wouldn't do that
stuff, it makes everyone cry! Thanks Ashley!
This Sunday, Scott Hill, a former drug user and supplier,
will be here to share his testimony. Scott is a remarkable
young man who will forever wear the marks of his former
life. A few years ago Scott was in his own meth lab when it
exploded. Come hear Scott share his story of salvation and
how we shouldn't play with, experiment with or hang around
that which is unlawful, unethical or against God's will.
Please come out Sunday for another awesome day in the Lord
and join in with praying for our Youth as they travel.
For the Cause of Christ,
Kenny
