HEY THERE!!!!!
Don't forget to set your clocks BACK one hour this Saturday
night before going to bed. Daylight savings time begins
Sunday morning at 2am.
Speaking of time, it is now 3:30 in a Shanghai afternoon and
I am concluding that most of you, my friends in America, are
sleeping. Joe is eating a Pomegranate which is full of red
berries filled with a juice like substance. It looks like an
apple but instead of just eating it or slicing it, you must
break it open with your hands and discover the surprise
inside...I call it "Chinese Cracker Jacks." Joe and his wife
have a wonderful home and it is great to be here.
Everyone from our team should have already arrived home
safely as we left them at the airport when they were about
to go through security so we could leave their international
flight airport and travel a few miles to our domestic flight
airport. J.D. Miller was wonderful as usual during our
concerts as well as other wonderful activities in which we
participated.
Lowell Mason is expected to worship with us October 8th and
I believe Cheryl Roberts might be there as well.
Both of them were great assets to our team and I truly
believe we accomplished more this time than any other and
yet all of the other visits were building blocks for this
one. I want to thank you for your patience while I have been
away in previous years as well as this time but I am
strongly impressed with the knowledge a greater harvest of
good is reaped because of it.
I have a busy schedule still ahead of me but not as busy as
when the rest of the team were here. I am glad for the slow
down and am counting the days till I return. As I write, I
am six days away from coming home and yet there are a few
days which will be filled with activities and some with
noting but rest. Some nights we are awake until 3 or 4 am
and yet it is the time which is best for some of our
meetings with special people. Sometimes I sit and listen to
the Chinese conversations for an hour or two (which isn't
all that much fun) but I know it honors my friends, however,
every now and then they stop and someone tells me what they
have been talking about.
Every food I am offered, I am told "This is good for your
stomach" or "This one is good for your skin." I was told
that one of the foods (Black Sesame) is good for keeping my
hair black." I asked them "Which food is best for KEEPING my
hair. I don't care what color it is as long as it doesn't
get too much of that flesh tone look." Ha! Ha!
Glenna Gilbert, wife of Mike Gilbert, sent me a web link and
asked if that was really me in the video. When I tried to
connect to the link so as to view and answer her question,
it was blocked. I will try and see the link when I return
home as I have been informed that "Facebook" contents are
restricted. There are many sites in China chronicling every
visit we have made. Some have video and photo clips and some
of them are of times when we didn't even see a camera
anywhere.
I was able to visit with the family who has adopted me as
their eldest son. They live in a very modest 2 room home. We
prepared and cooked dumplings, ate nuts, pomegranate,
tangerines AND a few things I didn't even ask about. A few
years ago they gave me a name which sounds like "Chin
Young." It means "One who brings sunshine of happiness to
Xi'an." I hope I could somehow live up to that name for them
and so as one day they could know of something more than the
limited sustaining power this world offers.
Now for a thought which you may dwell on for the rest of the
day...one which could lead to a great dietary program if you
would think about this every time you are about to eat. Joe
prepared a breakfast which is termed "Traditional Shanghai
Breakfast." He went on to tell me that many Chinese from
Shangahi do not eat this anymore...and I now know why. You
might not want to continue reading. This is your final
warning...here it is: Pickled eggs ONE MONTH OLD! I ate it
with a slight grimace on my face but I ate it none the less.
Then they gave me an "Oriental Tic Tac" which tasted vinegar
filled liquorices. Sorry but this Christmas you might hear
me singing:
